From the iconic skyline of New York City to the harbor of Sydney, and into neighborhoods across the country, Be Bone Strong™ is turning awareness into action, one step at a time. This year, that energy is on full display as our team prepares for two of the world’s most recognized races, while also expanding opportunities for people everywhere to take part, no starting line required.
Running for a Cause: The 2026 Marathon Season
The BHOF Be Bone Strong™ team is preparing for two of the world’s most prestigious races. On August 30, 2026, our runners will take on the TCS Sydney Marathon, crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge and helping bring greater attention to osteoporosis prevention worldwide. Then, on November 1, 2026, we return as an official charity partner for the TCS New York City Marathon, where our runners will represent the bone health community across all five boroughs.
Led by Team Captain Barbara Hannah Grufferman, an award-winning author and advocate who has completed 17 marathons since turning 50, our runners represent the 54 million Americans living with osteoporosis or at high risk due to low bone mass. Every mile they run and every dollar they raise supports patient care, education, and efforts to prevent fractures before they happen.
Redefining the Marathon: Start Where You Are
A marathon is not for everyone, but the idea behind it is simple: consistent, weight-bearing activity helps keep bones strong. Whether it is running, walking, or simply moving more throughout the day, staying active plays an important role in maintaining strength and mobility over time.
That is why we are expanding Be Bone Strong™ beyond the marathon course. If you are not training for 26.2 miles, you can still take part by starting something just as meaningful in your own community: a Be Bone Strong™ Walking Club.
Active Advocacy in Your Neighborhood
Walking is one of the most accessible and effective ways to support bone health. It improves balance, supports mobility, and creates opportunities to connect with others who share a commitment to staying active.
BHOF is helping supporters launch local walking clubs across the country, making it easier to turn good intentions into lasting habits.
Starting a club is simple:
The Commitment: Regular walks, typically 30 to 60 minutes at a moderate pace
The Benefit: Access to BHOF resources and trusted guidance on healthy aging and safe movement
The Connection: A chance to stay motivated alongside neighbors and friends
From active groups in Virginia Beach to new clubs forming now, these efforts show that you do not need a bib number to make an impact. You can even turn your walking club into a personal fundraiser, honoring a loved one or celebrating a milestone while supporting the BHOF mission.
Join the Team
Whether you are an experienced runner eyeing the streets of Manhattan or someone looking to start a weekly walk, there is a place for you on the Be Bone Strong™ team.
Every step, whether it is a marathon stride or a walk around the block, moves us closer to a future where fractures are far less common.
